We make the version you can actually ship

Vela Line is a six-person studio working with founders and marketing leads who have a clear goal, a real deadline, and no appetite for a three-month discovery phase.

Senior-led, no handoff Fixed scope, fixed dates Remote across UK & EU hours
01

The people who pitch do the work

You meet the two people who will run your project on the first call, and they stay on it until it ships. Nothing is passed to a junior team after signature.

02

Scope is written before we start

Every engagement begins with a one-page scope: what ships, what it depends on, what is explicitly out. Changes are priced as changes, not absorbed silently.

03

Decisions get recorded

Each week ends with a short written note: what we decided, what we need from you, what moves next. You can forward it to your board without translating it.

Four lanes we run

Most clients start in one lane and add a second later. Each lane has a defined deliverable set and a typical duration, so you can budget before you talk to us.

01

Brand system

A working identity rather than a mood board: naming direction if needed, logotype, type and colour system, layout rules, and the templates your team will actually reuse.

  • Logotype and secondary marks
  • Type, colour and spacing rules
  • Deck, social and document templates
  • Written usage guide

Typical 5–7 weeks
2 review rounds
Source files included

02

Website & landing pages

Design and front-end build for marketing sites. We write the structure with you first, then design against real copy — never against placeholder text that changes everything later.

  • Sitemap and page structure
  • Responsive design at three widths
  • Built pages, handed over or deployed
  • Editing guide for your team

Typical 6–10 weeks
Copy support optional
CMS or static

03

Product interface

Interface design for teams with engineers already building. We work in your repo’s vocabulary, deliver components rather than screenshots, and sit in your standups while the work is live.

  • Flow maps for the routes in scope
  • Component library in Figma
  • States, empty cases and error copy
  • Design review during build

Typical 8–12 weeks
Works alongside your devs
Retainer after launch

04

Launch campaign

The assets around a release date: message hierarchy, the announcement page, email sequence and the cutdowns your channels need. Planned backwards from the date you have committed to.

  • Message hierarchy and key lines
  • Announcement page
  • Email sequence design
  • Channel-sized asset set

Typical 3–5 weeks
Date-led schedule
Sprint format available

Three recent engagements

Written up as scope and decisions rather than results theatre. Fuller case notes, including what we would do differently, are shared on request.

Halden Field Co-op

A regional growers’ co-op had four sub-brands competing for attention on one shelf. We consolidated them into a single mark with a produce-led colour set, then rebuilt the ordering-information site so wholesale buyers could find seasonal availability without calling the office.

Rowan Ledger

A bookkeeping tool for small practices needed its reporting section rebuilt before onboarding larger firms. We mapped the five routes accountants used daily, simplified the filtering model, and shipped a component set the two in-house engineers could build against directly.

Marren Rooms

An independent workspace operator opened a second building with the date already announced. We worked backwards from opening week: one message hierarchy, an announcement page, a six-email sequence for the existing member list, and print sized for the local high street.

How an engagement runs

Four phases, and what we need from you

The schedule only holds if the review side holds. Each phase lists the one thing we ask of your team so nothing stalls waiting on an approval.

Phase 01

Scope call

A 45-minute conversation about the goal, the date and the constraints. We follow it with a one-page written scope and a fixed price. No charge, no deck.

We needWhoever can say yes on the call.

Phase 02

Frame

We gather what exists, agree the structure and the message hierarchy, and settle the questions that would otherwise reopen halfway through design.

We needExisting files and one named reviewer.

Phase 03

Make

Design and build in visible weekly increments. Two consolidated review rounds, each with a written summary of what changed and why.

We needConsolidated feedback within three working days.

Phase 04

Hand over

Files, sources and a short guide written for the person who will maintain it. We stay reachable for two weeks after close at no extra cost.

We needThe team member who will own it afterwards.

Ways to work together

Three engagement shapes

Most enquiries land in one of these. If your situation sits between two, say so in the brief and we will tell you which is the cheaper route to the same outcome.

Sprint

One or two weeks · fixed fee

A short, tightly bounded piece of work when you know exactly what is missing and need it quickly.

  • Single deliverable agreed up front
  • One review round
  • Daily written progress note
  • Usually starts within a fortnight

Best for a landing page, a pitch system or an audit before a bigger decision.

Project

Four to twelve weeks · fixed fee

The standard shape for any of the four service lanes, priced from a written scope before we begin.

  • Full lane deliverable set
  • Two consolidated review rounds
  • Weekly decision note
  • Two weeks of support after handover

Best for a rebrand, a marketing site, a product surface or a dated launch.

Retainer

Monthly · rolling, 30 days’ notice

Ongoing capacity for teams who have shipped the first thing and now need steady design attention.

  • Agreed hours each month
  • Priority in the weekly schedule
  • Monthly planning session
  • Pauses for a month without penalty

Best for post-launch product work, campaign cycles or an in-house team at capacity.

Questions before the first call

Practical answers

Who actually works on my project?
A lead designer and one other studio member, named in the scope document before you sign. We are six people in total, and we deliberately run few enough projects that the same pair stays with you from the scope call to handover.
Do we own the files at the end?
Yes. Full ownership of everything produced for you transfers on final payment, including editable source files, fonts we have licensed on your behalf where the licence allows transfer, and any code we wrote. Nothing is held back as leverage for a maintenance contract.
How do revisions work?
Project engagements include two consolidated review rounds per deliverable. Consolidated means one collected set of feedback from your side, not separate notes arriving over a week. Further rounds are available and quoted before the work starts, so a change never appears as a surprise on an invoice.
Can you work with our existing developers?
Frequently. In product work we join your standups, use your ticket system and deliver components in the structure your engineers asked for. If your team would rather receive a finished front-end build instead, we can do that as well — it changes the estimate, so tell us early.
What do you need from us to start?
One named reviewer with authority to approve, whatever brand or product files already exist, and a realistic date. If copy is being written internally, we need a draft before the design phase begins; designing against placeholder text is the most common cause of a slipped schedule.
What if we need to stop or pause?
Projects can be paused once for up to six weeks at no cost, and we will hold your slot where the schedule permits. If you stop entirely, you pay for the phases completed and receive everything produced up to that point. Retainers end on 30 days’ notice with no exit fee.

Start a brief

Tell us the goal and the date

What happens next

We read every enquiry ourselves and reply within two working days, either with a time for a scope call or with an honest note that we are not the right studio for it.

Rough is fine

You do not need a finished brief. A paragraph about the problem, the deadline and who is involved is enough for a useful first conversation.

If the dates are tight

Say so in the message. Sprint work can often start sooner than project work, and we would rather tell you that on day one than four calls in.

Goal, deadline, who is involved, and anything already decided.
